As a wife, mother of children with special needs, and former school counselor and youth leader, I speak about the following topics:

  • Caregiving – especially self-care techniques for the caregivers;
  • Grief – differences in grief versus depression, similarities, etc.;
  • Accepting differences in others (anti-bullying messages);
  • Overcoming adversity;
  • Dangers of the occult and New Age Movement;
  • How to teach your children social skills in an anti-social world.

    Free, online talk: “Look, mom, that baby has a funny face!”

    I discuss helpful versus unhelpful comments and reactions from typical parents and children to people who are different, whether visibly or cognitively.  Sharing my experience with people who are scared of Sarah’s appearance, I offer advice on how to approach parents of children with special needs.

  • 2015 Riley Children’s Hospital Craniofacial Conference for Parents and Professionals
    March 5, 2015

    Ben and I were featured parent panelists and speakers at this conference on the topic of self-care and grief after serious diagnosis.  Other featured speakers included medical professionals who specifically handle various aspects of children with craniofacial conditions.  Students in the health care industry, as well as other craniofacial parents, attended.
